| Children and Youth Art Exhibit and Charity Silent Auction |
| |
| Currently in its eighth year, The 8th Annual Children and Youth Art Exhibit and Silent Charity Auction is an annual fundraiser, and one of the opportunities DiscoverAbility gives to students to exhibit and donate their work. This annual event held at the Canadian Broadcasting Centre (CBC) and Metro Hall asks young artists who participate in our workshops to donate their artwork to the festival, where it is showcased as part of a week long exhibit and silent auction. Net proceeds from the auction are split - 50% of art sale revenues go to support DiscoverAbility's programs, and 50% to the charities chosen by the young artists. |
These students are incredibly enthusiastic about the prospect of having their artwork displayed for the public and are genuinely in awe when they realize that members of the community purchase and display it in their homes and offices. Each year we set up the DiscoverAbility Marketplace that showcases the work of our youngest artists – these arts and crafts can be bought throughout the week. |
This year's participants include special guests from the Czech Republic, Vancouver, China and Hong Kong and students from all levels of education who used their talents to create original art pieces. The art work that mentors and students created and donated, were the products of the dynamic environments in which DiscoverAbility seeks to bring into the process of creation through their 41 workshops. Art works will be exhibited in the CBC Barbara Frum Atrium and Metro Hall Rotunda between Feb 25th to 28th, 2008.
If you would like to learn more about how to get involved with the art exhibit and book an art workshop for your school, contact us and we would be more than willing to send supplementary information. Workshops are available from September to May.
