DiscoverAbility Inc. is a non-profit charitable organization offering innovative arts and recreation programs. Founded by Irene Udo in the early 1990s, DiscoverAbility started as a modest after-school program in childcare centres. With a specialized curriculum that focuses on arts and recreation, DiscoverAbility provided the opportunity for children and young adults to discover their talents and nurture their skills. Today, DiscoverAbility has grown exponentially reaching hundreds of students across the Greater Toronto Area.
DiscoverAbility is powered by mentoring. At our unique workshops, professionals mentor to university students, who mentor to high school students, who mentor to elementary students. We created a dynamic environment where children, youth and young adults from all levels of education come together to share knowledge and explore ideas.
Our programs offer young students an opportunity to explore various disciplines, while providing older students a chance to apply their knowledge in practical settings. DiscoverAbility workshops produce a variety of results: an art piece, a constructed work, a drama skit or proposed solutions to challenges within the community. |

The DiscoverAbility Art Exhibit and Silent Charity Auction is one of the main ways we highlight the contributions of young people within our community. This weeklong exhibit features pieces completed by students participating in our visual art workshops. Students of all ages explore their creativity through a variety of mediums that include watercolours, acrylics, sculpture and mixed media. The art pieces produced from these workshops are auctioned at the DiscoverAbility Art Exhibit and Silent Charity Auction, with proceeds donated to the young artist's charity of choice.
Practice + Participation = Achievement
DiscoverAbility’s goal is to support the development of our next generation, providing opportunities for them to enhance their talents, and empowering them to contribute to the community. While program participants create beautiful artwork, DiscoverAbility is most proud of the artistic relationships that are built and fortified through the creative process. |
